What changes the price
Five things account for nearly all of the difference between one quote and another.
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Roofline length | The single biggest driver. More linear feet of roofline means more light, more clips, and more time on a ladder. |
| Roof height | A single story and a two-story gable peak are different jobs requiring different equipment and fall protection. |
| Number of peaks & planes | A simple gable is one clean run. Six planes with dormers means six runs that all have to line up. |
| Vertical elements | Wrapped columns, entryways, railings, wreaths, and garland each add material and labor beyond the roofline. |
| Trees & landscape | Wrapping trunks and canopies is time-intensive and priced separately from the structure. |
Why there is no price list on this page
Because a published per-foot rate would be wrong for most homes, and quoting a house from a satellite photo produces a number that changes once someone actually stands in the driveway.
Two homes with the same square footage can differ by a wide margin on roofline length alone, before you account for height, pitch, or how many peaks there are. The design walk is what makes the price exact and firm — and it is free.
Is professional Christmas light installation worth it?
It depends on what your time is worth and how the house is meant to look. A do-it-yourself display runs a few hundred dollars in strands that mostly get replaced the following year, plus two weekends of your own labor, plus ladder work on a two-story roof.
Professional installation costs more up front and removes all of it — the shopping, the testing, the climbing, the mid-season repairs, the January takedown, and the storage. The lights themselves are commercial-grade and cut to your roofline, which is why the result looks different from the street.
Common questions
How much does Christmas light installation cost in Tallahassee?
Christmas light installation with ShipShape Exteriors starts at $1,000 for the season, all-inclusive — design, commercial-grade LEDs, installation, mid-season service, January takedown, and storage. Roofline length, roof height, and the number of peaks, columns, and trees lit are what move the price from there.
Why is professional installation more than buying lights myself?
Because the price covers the whole season, not a box of lights. It includes commercial-grade LEDs cut to your roofline, the ladder work, mid-season repairs, takedown in January, and storage until next year. Store-bought strands cost less up front and are replaced most years.
Is the price per season or a one-time cost?
Per season. The season price covers design, install, service, takedown, and storage from October through January. Returning customers are re-quoted each year, and the price generally holds when the design does not change.
When is payment due?
A deposit holds your install date, with the balance due at installation. Nothing is owed at the design consultation and nothing is ordered until you approve the design and the price.
Do you charge extra to travel to Thomasville or Monticello?
No. Thomasville, Monticello, Havana, and the rest of the service area within about an hour of Tallahassee are quoted the same as in-town work, with no travel surcharge.
